Im Januar 2021 baten wir Menschen in einer Reihe von Aufrufen, uns Videomaterial aus dem gerade vergangenen Jahr zuzusenden: alles, von dem Menschen 2020 dachten, es lohnt sich, auf Aufnahme zu drücken, war für uns interessant – oft war das Material, das einfach noch auf dem Smartphone gespeichert war. Aus den über 100 eingesandten Clips ist 2020 REVIEW entstanden, ein Jahresrückblick, der mit der Silvesternacht 2019/20 beginnt und mit der Silvesternacht 2020/21endet und der dazwischen häufig, aber nicht immer ganz streng der Chronologie der Ereignisse folgt. Die meisten Einsendungen erreichten uns aus Europa, vor allem aus Deutschland und Österreich, aber zwischendurch macht der Film auch kurze Abstecher nach Indien, Neuseeland oder Kanada.
2020 REVIEW ist eine Übung in Telepartizipation und entstand aus dem Versuch, unsere sonst ortsspezifische und auf dem persönlichen Kontakt mit Menschen beruhende Praxis unter Pandemiebedingungen fortzusetzen und ein partizipatives Element zu bewahren, auch wenn man nicht mehr so einfach zur gleichen Zeit am gleichen Ort sein konnte.
In January 2021, we asked people to send us their videos of the previous year: anything they thought was worth recording. From the material we received, more than one hundred video clips, we made the film 2020 REVIEW. The film begins with the new year’s celebrations for 2020, ends with the celebrations for 2021 and, in between, often but not always follows the chronology of events.
Most videos we received were from Europe, primarily from Germany and Austria, but the film makes a few excursions beyond that, to India, New Zealand, Canada.
2020 REVIEW is an exercise in tele-participation. It originated from the attempt to continue our practice, which is usually site-specific and relies on personal contact, under the conditions of a pandemic and to retain a participatory element even when being at the same place at the same time had become difficult.
